Job summary

Morson Edge in Australia is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support planning, design, analysis and implementation of engineering projects in the heavy transport sector.

You will work under the Engineering Team, applying CAD/FEA tools, developing prototypes, and preparing technical reports while ensuring regulatory compliance and robust documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required or you are in final year.
• 3+ years' engineering experience in automotive, rail, aerospace or heavy transport products.
• Strong CAD/FEA knowledge including analysis methods.
• Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, development and implementation of mechanical components and systems.
• Prepare technical reports, design documentation and project proposals.
• Conduct research and analysis to improve product performance and efficiency.
• Assist with prototype development, testing and validation of engineering solutions.
• Review and interpret technical drawings, CAD models, stress analysis and specifications.
• Prepare and review DFMEA documentation.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to develop innovative solutions to challenges.

Reporting into the Engineering Team, you will support the planning, design, analysis and implementation of engineering projects. The role offers broad exposure across mechanical engineering, including research, development, design and testing, giving you the chance to deepen your technical expertise and gain valuable experience in a fast-growing clean-tech environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design, development and implementation of mechanical components and systems
• Support the preparation of technical reports, design documentation and project proposals
• Conduct research and analysis to improve product performance and efficiency
• Assist with prototype development, testing and validation of engineering solutions
• Review and interpret technical drawings, CAD models, stress analysis and engineering specifications
• Prepare and review Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) documentation
• Collaborate with the engineering team to develop innovative solutions to technical challenges
• Support compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADR) and other regulatory requirements

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or in your final year of study)
• 3+ years' engineering experience, ideally in automotive, rail, aerospace or heavy transport products
• Solid understanding of mechanical systems, materials and design principles
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Solid Edge or similar), with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience gained through study or industry
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to write clear technical reports and documentation
• Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills and competency with MS Office
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative approach
• A willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges
• A valid driver's licence is preferred but not essential
