Job summary

Queensland Department of Education – Brisbane QLD is seeking a practical Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities to maintain grounds, facilities and equipment across a school campus. The role involves hands-on tasks, minor repairs, cleaning and coordinating event setups to support a safe, welcoming learning environment.

You will work with a school team and tradespeople, ensuring WHS compliance and effective communication.

Qualifications

• Hands-on maintenance experience
• Ability to work independently
• Good communication and teamwork
• Basic computer literacy

Responsibilities

• Grounds maintenance: mow lawns, maintain ovals, gardens, trees and sporting facilities
• Equipment maintenance: service and repair tools and machinery, arrange servicing
• Building upkeep: minor repairs, painting and general upkeep of buildings and facilities
• Event setup: prepare for assemblies, sports events, exams and school functions
• Furniture and stores: move furniture, organise supplies, maintain stock and records
• Security: operate security systems and lock/unlock buildings
• Cleaning and waste: clear drains, collect rubbish, maintain clean grounds
• WHS compliance: follow safety procedures, handle chemicals and report hazards
• Communication: liaise with management, staff and tradespeople regarding maintenance
