Job summary

Macquarie University is seeking a Visa, Relocation and Global Mobility Specialist to advise on visa options, manage end-to-end immigration for international academics and coordinate relocation for new staff and their families.

The role sits in the Talent Acquisition team within Human Resources, focusing on compliance, sponsorship records and audit readiness in a highly regulated environment to attract global talent.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in HR, business, law or related discipline; OMARA registration desirable.
• Experience in immigration consulting, corporate mobility or global relocation, ideally in a university or regulated environment.
• Detailed knowledge of Australian immigration legislation and visa processes (407, 408, 482, 186) and academic exemptions.
• Proven expertise in employer‑sponsored visas and nomination processing, with autonomous handling within a complex context.
• High-level stakeholder engagement with government agencies and external counsel; discretion with personal data.
• Well-developed case management, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task under tight timelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; experience delivering compliance training.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on visa and immigration regulations to hiring managers and leaders.
• Assess visa eligibility and outline step-by-step processes for staff, visiting academics and prospective employees.
• Manage visa lifecycle for researchers, including nomination processing and government correspondence.
• Uphold immigration policies and mitigate risk; escalate breaches as needed.
• Maintain sponsorship records and track visa expiry dates for compliance and audits.
• Act as primary contact between the University, legal counsel and government departments; liaise with external agencies.
• Coordinate international and domestic relocation benefits, housing resources and onboarding logistics.
• Deliver information sessions and training on immigration changes and policy adherence.
