General Manager / Licensee | Welcome Inn Hotel

Love a great pub? Know what it takes to run one? We should talk.

The Welcome Inn Thirlmere is looking for an experienced, hands‑on General Manager to take the reins and lead our local.

We're talking great food, cold drinks, a welcoming atmosphere and a pub the community is proud to call its own. Behind every great pub is a great operator, and we're looking for someone who knows hospitality inside and out, loves leading people and understands that running a successful venue takes more than keeping the beer cold!

You’ll oversee all aspects of the hotel across food, beverage and gaming, with a focus on building a great team, driving financial performance and creating an exceptional customer experience.

If you’re a natural leader, commercially minded and passionate about the local pub scene, this could be your next big move.

WHAT'S THE ROLE ALL ABOUT?

You’ll be the driving force behind The Welcome Inn, responsible for creating a venue that performs commercially, operates seamlessly and keeps the locals coming back.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the Team: Build a positive team culture, develop staff and lead by example. We’re looking for someone who rolls up their sleeves and gets involved.
  • Running the Show: Oversee daily operations across food, beverage and gaming, ensuring high standards and smooth service.
  • Driving Performance: Manage budgets, revenue, expenses and key financial KPIs, including gross profit, labour costs and stock control.
  • Growing the Business: Develop marketing strategies, promotions and initiatives that attract new customers and keep the locals coming back.
  • Building Community: Establish strong relationships within Thirlmere and make the hotel a genuine local favourite.
  • Maintaining Standards: Oversee compliance, stock management, ordering, reporting, venue presentation and operational procedures.
  • Working Together: Collaborate with senior management to identify opportunities, improve performance and drive business growth.
OK, BUT WHO ARE YOU?

You’re an experienced hospitality operator who knows what makes a pub tick.

You’re commercially savvy, people focused and organised enough to keep all the moving parts under control. You can read a P&L, manage a roster, motivate a team and still make time to have a conversation with a regular at the bar.

You’re not someone who sits in the office waiting for things to happen. You get involved, lead by example and take pride in the venue you’re running.

Ideally, you’ll bring:
  • Previous experience as a Licensee, General Manager or senior manager within a pub or hotel environment.
  • Strong experience across food, beverage and gaming operations.
  • A proven ability to lead, develop and retain a great team.
  • Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of budgets, revenue, gross profit, labour costs and stock control.
  • Confidence working with POS systems, financial reporting and operational procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with staff, management, suppliers and the local community.
  • A proactive approach to marketing, promotions and business development.
  • Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail.
  • A hands‑on attitude, a strong work ethic and the ability to stay calm when the Friday night rush arrives all at once.
You’ll also need:
  • Current NSW RSA and RCG qualifications.
  • Relevant NSW Licensee and Advanced Licensee training, as required for the position.

Previous experience in a community focused pub is highly regarded.

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE?

For us, it’s simple.

A team that enjoys coming to work. A venue that locals love. Customers who keep coming back. Strong financial results. High operational standards. And a General Manager who takes genuine pride in the business.

We’re looking for someone who can build on the hotel’s existing foundations, bring fresh ideas and continue evolving the venue while staying true to what makes a great local pub.

You won’t be expected to do everything alone, but you will be expected to take ownership, lead with confidence and make a positive impact.

A LITTLE ABOUT US

Watering Hole Hotels owns and operates 15 hotels and hospitality venues across greater Sydney and regional NSW and is on the hunt for more! So, if you are looking to grow in the industry, we are the right people for you.

We’re a team of hospitality professionals who believe great venues are built on great people, strong leadership and a genuine commitment to the customer experience.

We’re passionate about creating venues that their communities are proud of, and we understand that the best results come from giving good operators the opportunity to lead, develop their teams and make a difference.

READY TO TAKE THE REINS?

If you’re passionate about pubs, love leading people and know how to turn a good local into a great one, we’d love to hear from you.

Bring your experience, your ideas and your passion for hospitality. We’ll bring the opportunity.
