Full Stack Engineer - AI & Business Systems

$90,000 – $110,000 + SUPERANNUATION

ABOUT RIVKIN

Rivkin has been advising Australian investors since 1969. We’re a family and staff-owned wealth management firm in Rushcutters Bay, covering stockbroking, SMSF administration, financial planning and private wealth. You'd be building for people you know by name, and you'd see what it changes.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our staff are already experimenting with AI, writing their own prototypes and automations to speed up their work. What we don’t have is someone to turn that into something the firm can rely on. That’s this role. You’ll work directly with the people doing the work — accountants, advisers, the operations team, marketers — to understand what they need, then build it in Next.js and TypeScript on AWS. You’ll take the prototypes staff have built themselves, harden them, put them on a proper deployment pipeline, and support them from there. You’ll also be a working member of our five-person IT team, reporting to the Senior Manager. Expect roughly 70% of your week building, and 30% on the day-to-day web, marketing and CRM requests that keep the business moving. That 30% is how you’ll come to know every system in the firm — which is what makes you the person to redesign them later.

We’re looking for two to four years’ experience. This is deliberately a bigger role than that number usually gets: you’ll have real ownership from the start, and support from the IT team on the architecture and security calls while you build the depth to make them yourself. If you want scope earlier than a larger company would give you, this is that job.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Lead non-technical colleagues through requirements gathering — ask the questions that surface what they actually need, supply the technical half they can’t see, and write the specification
• Build internal web applications, APIs and integrations
• Turn staff-built prototypes into tested, version-controlled services that run properly
• Build and run our Claude Code and MCP-based tooling, and train staff to use it well
• Maintain our WordPress sites, landing pages and CRM automations
• Keep it running once it’s live: field the follow-up questions, maintain what you’ve delivered, and report on what’s being used, what’s been abandoned and why. Adoption is your number, not just delivery.

WHAT YOU NEED

• Excellent communication — this matters as much as your technical capability. You'll work closely with people who aren't technical, so you need to ask good questions, push back constructively when needed, and explain trade-offs without jargon.
• 2–4 years’ professional full-stack development
• Next.js and TypeScript
• Comfortable working in AWS, and keen to go deeper
• You’ve built something real with agentic coding tools — Claude Code ideally — and you want to take it further
• Sound instincts on security and handling sensitive data — you know what you don’t know and you ask
• Some WordPress experience
• Self-motivation and self-direction. You chase the people you need, and you finish things without being managed.
• Australian working rights. Appointment is subject to background and police checks.

NICE TO HAVE

• Depth in MCP servers, agents, retrieval, evaluation and guardrails
• Financial services or another regulated environment
• ActiveCampaign or a comparable CRM and marketing automation platform
• Python, PHP, Bash, SQL and .NET

WHERE THIS GOES

Within a year or two, this role grows into owning our AI roadmap outright, the architecture behind it, and the security posture around it.
