Job summary

Temple & Webster, Australia’s leading online furniture retailer, seeks a Principal Frontend Engineer to drive technical direction and remain hands-on. You will shape the Next.js storefront, set frontend standards, and co-own the technical roadmap. You’ll also pioneer AI-native workflows to boost velocity, quality, and maintainability.

You’ll own architecture, performance, and mentorship across squads, while delivering scalable frontend solutions for a high-traffic e-commerce platform.

Qualifications

• Deep React/Next.js experience in high-traffic e-commerce.
• Experience in web performance optimization and observability.
• Hands-on with agentic AI-assisted development workflows.
• Commercial and data-driven decision making impacting UX.

Responsibilities

• Act as escalation point for frontend challenges and own frontend architecture.
• Co-own storefront roadmap with a focus on Next.js performance and real user metrics.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools responsibly across teams.
• Establish and enforce CI/CD pipelines, testing disciplines, linting, and WCAG.
• Mentor senior/mid-level engineers and communicate architectural trade-offs.
