Job summary

Wagga Wagga City Council is seeking an experienced Flood Management Specialist to lead and coordinate floodplain risk management and stormwater initiatives within the Planning & Regulatory Services Directorate.

You will work with internal and external stakeholders, interpret modelling and provide technical advice to support development decisions and emergency planning, with a focus on building community resilience.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Extensive floodplain and stormwater management experience.
• Ability to interpret flood models and complex data.
• Strong knowledge of NSW legislation and standards.
• Experience managing consultants and technical investigations.
• Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of floodplain risk management framework and stormwater management initiatives.
• Provide specialist technical advice on flooding, stormwater and floodplain management to support infrastructure projects, asset management and land use planning.
• Review and interpret flood modelling, technical investigations and engineering assessments to inform strategic planning and development decisions.
• Collaborate with government agencies, industry professionals and community stakeholders to support effective flood risk management and emergency planning.
• Maintain and improve Council's flood and stormwater data to support evidence-based decision-making.
• Lead community engagement initiatives to improve flood awareness and preparedness.
• Coordinate grant applications, technical investigations and projects relating to floodplain and stormwater risk management.
• Support flood event responses and post-event assessments to inform future planning and risk mitigation strategies.
• Provide specialist technical advice to Council's Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee.
