Job summary

Engage Construction Pty Ltd is seeking a Finance Officer to join our Alexandria office in NSW on a part-time basis. You will manage accounts payable, process payroll, and support the finance team with daily accounting duties in a growing construction company.

The role is ideal for an experienced bookkeeper re-entering the workforce or someone studying, with school hours five days a week. You’ll be part of a supportive, professional team with scope for development.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in accounts payable or similar accounting function.
• Qualification in accounting or finance (bookkeeping certificate or tertiary qualification) is highly desirable.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.

Responsibilities

• Process and verify accounts payable invoices.
• Record transactions in the general ledger and maintain records.
• Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies.
• Prepare payment runs and process supplier payments.
• Prepare and process weekly payroll for salary and timesheet employees.
• Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders regarding accounting queries.
• Assist with year-end closing procedures.

About the role

We are seeking a Finance Officer to join our team on a part-time basis at our Alexandria office in NSW. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of a thriving construction company whilst maintaining flexibility in your work schedule. As Finance Officer, you will play a key role in managing our accounts payable function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all financial transactions. This position offers the chance to develop your finance career whilst working with a supportive and professional team.

What you'll be doing

• Processing and verifying accounts payable invoices for accuracy and completeness
• Recording transactions in the general ledger and maintaining detailed financial records
• Reconciling supplier statements and investigating discrepancies
• Preparing payment runs and processing payments to suppliers in a timely manner
• Preparing and processing weekly payroll containing salary and timesheet employees
• Managing supplier accounts and responding to enquiries professionally
• Assisting with year-end closing procedures
• Ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant accounting standards
• Supporting the Operations Manager and external Accountants with general accounting duties and ad hoc reporting
• Maintaining accurate documentation and filing systems

What we're looking for

• Proven experience in accounts payable or a similar accounting function
• Strong proficiency in accounting software (Xero, Dext) and Microsoft Excel
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
• Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise professionally with suppliers and internal stakeholders
• Reliable and punctual with a professional attitude towards work
• A qualification in accounting or finance (such as a bookkeeping certificate, or relevant tertiary qualification) is highly desirable
• Experience in the construction industry is advantageous but not essential
