Job summary

Engage Construction Pty Ltd, a dynamic construction company in Sydney, is seeking a part-time Finance Officer to join the Alexandria office. You will manage accounts payable, record transactions, handle payroll processing weekly, and support occasional reporting tasks.

This role suits an experienced bookkeeper re-entering the workforce or someone studying, available for school hours five days a week in-office.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in accounts payable or similar accounting function.
• Proficient in Xero and Dext; strong Excel skills.
• Qualificatons in accounting/finance are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Process and verify accounts payable invoices for accuracy and completeness.
• Record transactions in the general ledger and maintain financial records.
• Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies.
• Prepare payment runs and process payments to suppliers on time.
• Prepare and process weekly payroll for salaried and timesheet staff.
• Manage supplier accounts and respond to enquiries professionally.
• Assist with year-end closing procedures and reporting.

About the role

We are seeking a Finance Officer to join our team on a part-time basis at our Alexandria office in NSW. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of a thriving construction company whilst maintaining flexibility in your work schedule. As Finance Officer, you will play a key role in managing our accounts payable function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all financial transactions. This position offers the chance to develop your finance career whilst working with a supportive and professional team.

What you'll be doing

• Processing and verifying accounts payable invoices for accuracy and completeness
• Recording transactions in the general ledger and maintaining detailed financial records
• Reconciling supplier statements and investigating discrepancies
• Preparing payment runs and processing payments to suppliers in a timely manner
• Preparing and processing weekly payroll containing salary and timesheet employees
• Managing supplier accounts and responding to enquiries professionally
• Assisting with year-end closing procedures
• Ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant accounting standards
• Supporting the Operations Manager and external Accountants with general accounting duties and ad hoc reporting
• Maintaining accurate documentation and filing systems

What we're looking for

• Proven experience in accounts payable or a similar accounting function
• Strong proficiency in accounting software (Xero, Dext) and Microsoft Excel
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
• Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise professionally with suppliers and internal stakeholders
• Reliable and punctual with a professional attitude towards work
• A qualification in accounting or finance (such as a bookkeeping certificate, or relevant tertiary qualification) is highly desirable
• Experience in the construction industry is advantageous but not essential
