Job summary

Metso is seeking Field Service Technicians across Australia to perform hands-on machine inspections and on-site maintenance for customers. You will liaise between customers, product divisions and sales, and support technical evaluations and problem solving in the field.

The role requires a mechanical trade qualification (or 3–6 years of relevant experience), safety compliance, ability to travel, and the reading of engineering drawings and schematics. A current driver’s licence is essential.

Qualifications

• A mandatory mechanical trade qualification or 3–6 years of hands-on experience.
• Good safety regulatory knowledge and adherence to standards.
• Physically fit and able to pass medical with no site restrictions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites, including interstate or international as required.
• Current driver’s licence.
• Ability to perform basic engineering calculations.
• Experience with using standard hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Complete field machine inspections.
• Provide hands-on mechanical service and maintenance support to Metso customers in the field.
• Provide technical liaison between customers, Product Divisions and Sales personnel.
• Perform technical evaluations and analyse equipment and machine component failures.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and mechanical schematics to ensure the correct processes are followed.
• Supervise and oversee Field Service projects on customer sites.
• Escalate technical questions and analysis to Technical Support and Engineering teams.
• Support quotation activities by providing scopes of work, initial planning and costing information.
• Promote Metso products and services to customers.
• Prepare post-site reports, timesheets and expense documentation following site visits.
• Promote the value of Technical Support and provide support to Technical Support teams.
• Undertake some interstate and international travel as required.
• Perform physical work associated with field service activities.

We are inviting Expressions of Interest from Field Service Technicians across multiple locations in Australia, with opportunities arising based on business requirements.

Specific locations and working arrangements will vary depending on the opportunity, with travel to customer sites required as part of the role.

Our Service Operations Support team combines hands-on mechanical expertise with technical problem-solving and customer support, working closely with our customers, Product Divisions and Sales teams. As a Field Service Technician, you will play an important role in delivering and coordinating service activities relating to our machines, spares and wears, helping our customers keep their operations running at full capacity.

What you’ll bring

• Mechanical trade qualification from a college or technical school, or three to six years of relevant experience and/or training.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to safety regulations and standards.
• Physically fit and able to successfully complete a medical, with no site restrictions that would prevent you from performing the required duties.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics.
• Ability to travel at short notice.
• Ability to understand and follow operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read and understand a variety of written instructions.
• Ability to complete basic engineering calculations, including basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to provide standard hand tools applicable to the task.
• Current driver’s licence.

Desirable

• Basic understanding of rigging and dogging.
• Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence using Word and Excel.
