Job summary

Metso seeks Field Service Technicians across Australia to perform field inspections and hands-on maintenance on our machines, spares and wear parts. You will travel to customer sites, read drawings and collaborate with product divisions and sales to keep operations running at full capacity.

The role requires a mechanical trade background, safety compliance, and strong communication. Willingness to travel and perform site work is essential.

Qualifications

• Mechanical trade qualification or 3–6 years relevant experience.
• Commitment to safety regulations and standards.
• Physically fit and medically cleared for site work.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel on short notice.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics.
• Ability to complete basic engineering calculations (algebra, geometry).
• Ability to read and understand written instructions.
• Ability to prepare routine reports using Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical liaison between customers, Product Divisions and Sales personnel.

• Supervise and oversee Field Service projects on customer sites.
• Escalate technical questions to Technical Support and Engineering teams.
• Support quotation activities with scopes of work and costing information.
• Promote Metso products and services to customers.
• Prepare post-site reports, timesheets and expense documentation.

Field Service Technician

We are inviting Expressions of Interest from Field Service Technicians across multiple locations in Australia, with opportunities arising based on business requirements.

Specific locations and working arrangements will vary depending on the opportunity, with travel to customer sites required as part of the role.

Our Service Operations Support team combines hands‑on mechanical expertise with technical problem‑solving and customer support, working closely with our customers, Product Divisions and Sales teams. As a Field Service Technician, you will play an important role in delivering and coordinating service activities relating to our machines, spares and wears, helping our customers keep their operations running at full capacity.

What you’ll do

As a Field Service Technician, your responsibilities may include:

• Complete field machine inspections.
• Provide hands‑on mechanical service and maintenance support to Metso customers in the field.
• Provide technical liaison between customers, Product Divisions and Sales personnel.
• Perform technical evaluations and analyse equipment and machine component failures.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and mechanical schematics to ensure the correct processes are followed.
• Supervise and oversee Field Service projects on customer sites.
• Escalate technical questions and analysis to Technical Support and Engineering teams.
• Support quotation activities by providing scopes of work, initial planning and costing information.
• Promote Metso products and services to customers.
• Prepare post‑site reports, timesheets and expense documentation following site visits.
• Promote the value of Technical Support and provide support to Technical Support teams.
• Undertake some interstate and international travel as required.
• Perform physical work associated with field service activities.

What you’ll bring

• Mechanical trade qualification from a college or technical school, or three to six years of relevant experience and/or training.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to safety regulations and standards.
• Physically fit and able to successfully complete a medical, with no site restrictions that would prevent you from performing the required duties.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics.
• Ability to travel at short notice.
• Ability to understand and follow operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read and understand a variety of written instructions.
• Ability to complete basic engineering calculations, including basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to provide standard hand tools applicable to the task.
• Basic understanding of rigging and dogging.

Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence using Word and Excel.
