Job summary

CDS Feeders Pty Ltd, in partnership with Elbow Valley Beef EVB, seeks an experienced feedmill operator to manage commodity reception, milling, bunk management and feed delivery. You will perform pre-start checks, monitor grain storage, and ensure high standards of hygiene and animal welfare.

The role emphasizes precision in operating equipment, teamwork, and adherence to WHS and QA standards within a beef production environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate the mill to produce steam-flaked grain and assist with boiler and RO plant operations.
• Batch and batch-feed rations using the batch box system.
• Receive, test and store grain; monitor silo levels and keep bays stocked.
• Handle hay and silage; operate tub grinder and manage daily hay and silage tasks.
• Deliver feed on time; maintain bunk hygiene and record end-of-day feed data.
• Carry out pre-start checks, routine maintenance and cleaning around the feedmill.

Job description

Reporting to the Feedlot Mill Manager, you will work across all aspects of the feedmill — commodity receival, milling, plant and machinery maintenance, feed delivery and bunk management — to ensure the production of high-quality feed.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the mill to produce steam-flaked grain for feedlot rations, and assist with boiler and reverse osmosis plant operations, including water testing and recording
• Operate the shed loader and accurately batch feed rations using the batch box system
• Receive, test and store grain and other feed ingredients, monitor silo storage levels, and keep commodity shed bays stocked and clean
• Handle hay and silage — operate the tub grinder to chop hay for rations, put out hay bales in pens, collect daily silage requirements and maintain pit integrity (tarping and un-tarping)
• Deliver feed accurately and on time, maintain a high standard of bunk hygiene, and make daily bunk calls, bunk scoring assessments and end-of-day feed data checks under the direction of the Mill Manager
• Carry out pre-start checks, machinery operation and maintenance, and general cleaning duties around the feedmill
• Keep accurate records — feed deliveries and feed returns, ration sampling, dry matter testing and timely data entry into feedlot systems
• Assess and record weather and heat load data, and assist with implementation of the heat load plan
• Uphold animal welfare, biosecurity, WHS and quality assurance standards at all times, reporting hazards, incidents and equipment faults immediately
