Job summary

QA Hay is seeking an experienced export sales professional to lead the company’s international sales from its Warracknabeal base in Victoria. You will own the export sales function, building relationships with importers and distributors, developing new markets, and ensuring orders are fulfilled on quality, grade and time.

The role requires regular international travel to visit customers and host them on site, with close collaboration to production and logistics to meet customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Own QA Hay's international sales footprint by building and managing relationships with importers, distributors and end users in key export markets.
  • Develop new markets and customers for Australian export hay.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts and shipping terms to protect margins and deliver on promises.
  • Monitor market conditions, competitor activity, currency and freight, and share insights with the Directors.

Job description

QA Hay was started by two farmers who saw a better way to do things: put the grower first. From our new site in Warracknabeal, in the heart of Victoria's hay country, we press and pack quality Australian hay and send it to customers around the world.

We are growing fast, and we need an experienced export sales professional to take our hay to international markets and build the customer relationships that will carry us forward.

The role

Reporting to the Directors, you will own QA Hay's international sales. That means finding and winning new customers, looking after the ones we have, and making sure what we promise is what arrives.

You will:

  • Build and manage relationships with importers, distributors and end users in our key export markets
  • Develop new markets and customers for Australian export hay
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts and shipping terms
  • Stay across market conditions, competitor activity, currency and freight, and share what you learn with the Directors
  • Work closely with our production and logistics teams so orders are met on quality, grade and time
  • Travel internationally to visit customers, and host them on site when they come to see us
  • Give growers and the business clear feedback on what the market wants
What you bring

Market expertise is what matters most in this role. We are looking for someone who already knows this trade and the people in it.

  • Proven experience selling export hay, grain or a similar agricultural commodity into international markets
  • Strong knowledge of the export hay market, including customer needs, quality grades and pricing
  • Existing relationships with international buyers
  • A sound understanding of export contracts, shipping terms and documentation
  • Confident negotiation skills and the judgement to protect both the customer relationship and the margin
  • Ability to travel internationally on a regular basis (this is a requirement of the role)
  • A second language relevant to our markets is welcome but not essential
Location

Location is negotiable based on experience. Our site is in Warracknabeal, Victoria, and you will spend time there with the team and with visiting customers.
