TBG Qld is seeking a skilled Excavator / Plant Operator for civil infrastructure projects in Rockhampton. This permanent, full-time role offers varied work across essential infrastructure with opportunities to advance plant competencies.

Based in Rockhampton with potential travel, you will operate 5–8 tonne excavators, perform trenching and earthworks, and support civil construction on power and utility projects while maintaining high safety standards.

Qualifications

• Current Construction Industry White Card.
• Current Australian Driver’s Licence.

Responsibilities

Full-Time, Permanent Position | Rockhampton Based | Immediate Start

Are you an experienced excavator operator looking for secure, full-time work and the opportunity to build a long-term career in Queensland’s infrastructure sector?

TBG is growing, and we are looking for a skilled and dependable Plant Operator with proven experience operating 5–8 tonne excavators to join our project delivery team.

You will work across civil, power and utility infrastructure projects, undertaking detailed excavation, trenching and general construction activities as part of a supportive, hands-on crew.

This is a Rockhampton-based position—not FIFO or DIDO. Applicants must live in, or be willing to relocate to, the Rockhampton region. Project travel and periods working away may be required.

About the Role

Reporting to the Site Leadership Team, you will be responsible for:

• Operating 5–8 tonne excavators safely and efficiently

• Completing trenching, excavation, detailed earthworks and backfilling

• Excavating safely around existing underground services

• Supporting civil construction activities on power and utility infrastructure projects

• Completing daily plant pre-starts, inspections and basic maintenance checks

• Promptly reporting plant faults, damage or maintenance requirements

• Operating other plant and equipment where trained, authorised and competent

• Assisting with general site and manual construction activities when required

• Following approved procedures, SWMS, risk assessments and safe work practices

• Maintaining plant, equipment and work areas in a safe and orderly condition

• Working closely with supervisors, tradespeople and other crew members

• Travelling and working away on Queensland projects when required

What We’re Looking For

You will be well suited to this role if you have:

• Demonstrated experience operating excavators in the 5–8 tonne range

• Strong experience in trenching and detailed excavation

• The ability to work safely around underground services and live construction environments

• Relevant excavator competency, ticket or Verification of Competency

• Previous civil construction, power, rail or utility infrastructure experience

• A current Construction Industry White Card

• A current Australian Driver’s Licence

• A strong commitment to safety and quality

• The physical capacity to undertake outdoor and manual construction work

• A reliable, practical and proactive approach

• The ability to work effectively within a small project team

• A willingness to travel and work away when projects require it
