Job summary

CommBank's Customer Digital & AI squad is seeking an Engineering Manager and Squad Tech Lead to guide the team building self-service experiences for Companion across NetBank and the App. You will balance hands-on coding with people leadership, establishing patterns and solving complex engineering problems.

You will set technical direction, review architecture, and work with Product and Design in discovery phases.

Qualifications

• Experience leading engineers delivering customer-facing digital products in production.
• Strong depth in full-stack web engineering with Next.js/React/TypeScript, GraphQL, backend integration.
• Able to contribute to production code while leading people and setting direction.
• Familiarity with native mobile (iOS/Android) to guide cross-platform work.
• Experience guiding architecture decisions and handling performance or delivery issues.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary squad delivering customer experiences across NetBank and the CommBank App.
• Set technical direction for architecture, API boundaries, performance, accessibility, security and maintainability.
• Contribute to code and technical implementation where impact is highest.
• Collaborate with Product and Design during discovery before delivery commitments.
• Build a team with clear expectations, ownership, feedback, and performance management.
• Ensure CI/CD, automated testing, observability, resilience and operation readiness.
• Improve how changes get into production, including release practices and change size.
• Promote responsible use of AI-assisted engineering with testing and reviews.
