Senior Engineering Manager - Product Engineering & Platforms

Job summary

CommBank is building a new Product Engineering squad focused on full-stack, cloud-native products. You will lead ~15 engineers across two to three squads, shaping a high-agency environment with ownership from idea through production.

You will drive technical direction, architecture decisions and end-to-end delivery while mentoring talent and partnering with Product to deliver measurable business outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience leading multiple engineering squads or multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong engineering experience in Java or TypeScript, including Node.js and React.
• Experience designing, building and operating solutions on AWS.
• Knowledge of microservices, API-driven architectures and container platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, resilience and secure engineering practices.
• A track record of coaching, mentoring and building team capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and grow high-performing engineering teams, creating an inclusive culture of accountability and curiosity.
• Set technical direction and guide design and architecture decisions across full-stack products and platforms.
• Own delivery across the product lifecycle, ensuring teams build, run and improve solutions in production.
• Remain technically engaged, contributing to design discussions and code where value is added.
• Partner with Product to turn complex problems into clear priorities and measurable business outcomes.
• Build scalable, secure and resilient cloud-native solutions using modern engineering practices.
• Mentor engineers and set clear expectations to strengthen capability.
• Support commercial and delivery activities, including statements of work and supplier engagement.
