Job description

Employee & Industrial Relations Manager, Amazon Flex, Amazon Flex

Are you passionate about shaping the future of work? At Amazon, we're working to be the most customer-centric company on earth. One customer experience that we're constantly looking to take to a new level is how we fulfil and deliver their orders. Our goal is to exceed the expectations of all our customers by ensuring that their orders, no matter how large or small are delivered where and when they need them, as quickly, accurately, and cost effectively as possible. To meet this goal, Amazon is continually striving to innovate and provide best in class service levels through the introduction of pioneering new products and services in the last mile delivery space. We're doing this by building a world class last mile operation, significantly complimented by Amazon Flex. Amazon Flex works directly with independent contractors – called delivery partners – to make deliveries to our customers. With Amazon Flex, individuals can now be their own boss delivering Amazon packages. This role affords an opportunity to work on the cutting edge of innovation, while directly contributing to driving an improved experience for Amazon customers and Delivery Partners.

In this role you will play a pivotal role in representing Amazon Flex in processes before the Australian Fair Work Commission (FWC) and/or other labour arbitration bodies/regulators. You will be responsible for case intake and management. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with our legal team and service level standards team to mitigate risks, prepare case files, and recommend strategic outcomes.

Key job responsibilities
  • Represent Amazon at Fair Work Commission proceedings by clearly articulating the company's position, policies, and procedures, and play a key role in securing mutually beneficial resolutions while safeguarding the company's interests and adhering to legal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the legal, enforcement, and policy teams to assess and mitigate risks associated with labour disputes, compliance issues, and regulatory changes. Conduct thorough analyses of claims and evidence, liaise with internal and external legal teams on policies and procedures, and provide closed loop feedback to enforcement program owners to continue proactive risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Gather, organise, and maintain comprehensive case files, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality. Conduct deep dives, gather evidence and liaise with relevant stakeholders to support case preparation and defence. Coordinate with internal departments and external counsel to align on case strategies and timelines.
  • Identify emerging risks, regulatory trends, and arbitration case outcomes. Cross-functionally develop proactive risk mitigation strategies and policy recommendations to enhance compliance. Develop and provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders on best practices when participating in Fair Work Commission proceedings.
  • Monitor compliance of internal policies relating directly to the Digital Labour Platform Deactivation Code (DLDP). Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management and legal on enforcement-related risks, trends, and claim outcomes.
A day in the life

You’ll start your day by reviewing ongoing cases and prioritising your workload. You help the team prepare for a conciliation meeting with the Fair Work Commission, where you will articulate Amazon's position. You will collaborate with the legal team to analyse potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. You will also spend time preparing case files, gathering evidence, and conferencing with stakeholders to ensure we are well-prepared for upcoming proceedings.

About the team

You will be joining an inclusive and supportive team of professionals dedicated to ensuring fair practices and positive outcomes for both Amazon and delivery partners. We value collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to excellence. Our team works closely with various departments across Amazon, including legal, operations, and policy, to drive continuous improvement in our last-mile delivery services.

  • Experience representing an organisation in Fair Work Commission (FWC) proceedings, conciliation, or other labour arbitration/tribunal settings in Australia
  • Experience in employee relations, labor relations, human relations or labor/employment law
  • Working knowledge of Australian employment/labour law and regulatory frameworks (e.g. Fair Work Act, Digital Labour Platform Deactivation Code or equivalent gig-economy regulation)
