Job summary

Rio Tinto is seeking an experienced Electrician to join the Boyne Smelter in Gladstone, working on fixed plant electrical maintenance within the Reduction Lines.

This residential role offers a lifestyle day/night roster through December 2026, with a safety-first culture and support from Chandler Macleod.

Qualifications

• Industrial or heavy-industry electrical qualification.
• Ability to pass pre-employment medical.
• Current C Class manual driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Complete electrical maintenance across fixed plant and equipment within the Reduction Lines.
• Maintain crane tending assemblies and associated raw material delivery systems.
• Complete planned and breakdown maintenance.
• Diagnose electrical faults and undertake troubleshooting and repairs.
• Support the safe and reliable operation of plant and equipment.
• Complete other duties as required.
• Work safely in accordance with Rio Tinto procedures.

Through Rio Tinto’s partnership with Chandler Macleod, we are seeking an experienced Electrician to join the team at Rio Tinto’s Boyne Smelter (BSL) in Gladstone.

The Boyne Smelter is one of the largest aluminium smelters in Australia and operates a range of complex fixed plant and equipment across its Reduction Lines. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified electrician with industrial or heavy-industry experience to work within a high-risk operating environment, supporting the safe and reliable operation of the plant.

This residential role is open to candidates who live in Gladstone or the surrounding area. FIFO/DIDO applicants from outside the local area will not be considered.

The roster for this role is a lifestyle day/night roster, with the assignment running through to December 2026.
Reporting to the Supervisor and working in a collaborative environment, you will:

• Complete electrical maintenance across fixed plant and equipment within the Reduction Lines
• Maintain crane tending assemblies and associated raw material delivery systems
• Complete planned and breakdown maintenance
• Diagnose electrical faults and undertake troubleshooting and repairs
• Support the safe and reliable operation of plant and equipment
• Complete other duties as required
• Work safely in accordance with Rio Tinto procedures

About You

• Previous mining or heavy industry experience
• Commitment to work the rostered shifts
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Dedication to everyone’s safety
• Current C Class manual drivers’ license
• Relevant trade qualifications and certificates
• Ability to pass pre-employment medical and other
