Job summary

Australian Water Engineers is seeking a Mechanical Design Drafter to support our engineering and fabrication operations. You will develop 3D CAD models in Autodesk Inventor, prepare general arrangement drawings for customer approval, and produce manufacturing drawings for fabrication. The role emphasizes collaboration with engineers, drafters, and clients to ensure accurate, complete documentation for production.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in 3D modelling and 2D drafting.
• Fabrication/manufacturing exposure is essential.
• Autodesk Inventor proficiency is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop, customize and adapt product designs with support from the engineering team.
• Create accurate fabrication and machining drawings tailored to workshop capabilities.
• Collaborate with sales and clients to ensure designs meet project requirements.
• Prepare and peer review drawings, DXFs, BOMs and ITPs for procurement and manufacture.
• Support project administration and document management.

About the Role:

Work closely with our drafting and engineering team to develop 3D CAD models using Autodesk Inventor, prepare general arrangement drawings for customer approval, and produce manufacturing drawings for fabrication. Key duties include:

• Develop, customise and adapt product designs with support from the engineering team
• Create accurate fabrication and machining drawings tailored to workshop capabilities
• Collaborate with the sales team and clients to ensure solutions meet project requirements and expectations
• Prepare and peer review drawings, DXFs, BOMs and ITPs for in-house procurement and manufacture processes
• Support and assist with project administration and document management

About You:

• Minimum 2 years experience in 3D modelling and 2D drafting
• Experience and exposure to fabrication manufacturing is essential
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving mindset
• Keen eye for detail with pride in producing high-quality work
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Self-starter attitude with ability to work independently
• Autodesk Inventor experience highly desirable but not essential
