About the Role

As Department Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of your department, driving sales and profitability, maintaining exceptional presentation standards, and developing a motivated, high-performing team.

This is a key leadership position requiring someone who can balance operational excellence with strong people management and a genuine passion for customer service.

We are looking for someone who takes initiative, is accountable for results, and treats their department as their own business.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, coach, motivate, and develop your team to achieve outstanding results

Take full ownership of daily department operations, presentation, and performance

Drive sales growth while achieving gross profit, wage, and departmental KPI targets

Manage stock control, ordering, inventory accuracy, and stock availability

Minimise waste, shrinkage, and operational costs

Create and maintain attractive, well-merchandised displays that enhance the customer experience

Manage staff rostering, productivity, and labour costs effectively

Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and workplace health and safety

Deliver exceptional customer service and confidently resolve customer concerns

Train, mentor, and performance-manage team members to build a positive and accountable team culture

Utilise retail systems, reporting tools, and technology to monitor and improve performance

Work collaboratively with other Department Managers and Store Management to achieve overall business objectives

Identify opportunities for improvement and implement initiatives to increase efficiency and profitability

What We’re Looking For

Previous experience in a supermarket Department Manager or senior retail leadership role

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a successful team

Strong understanding of retail operations, merchandising, stock control, and inventory management

Commercial awareness with experience managing sales, gross profit, wages, and budgets

Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills

Confidence using retail systems, technology, and performance reports is a must

A proactive, hands‑on leadership style with a strong sense of accountability

Ability to work independently, make decisions, and take ownership of departmental results

A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to maintaining high standards

Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to the demands of a busy retail environment

Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends

Australian work rights are essential
