Job summary

Vanguard Logistics Services is seeking an experienced Licensed Customs Broker for a temporary, up-to-12-month contract in the Sydney area. The role supports import/export clearance, documentation accuracy, and regulatory compliance across air and sea shipments.

• Strong knowledge of Australian Customs Act, Tariff Act and INCOTERMS.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and lodge customs declarations for import/export shipments.
• Liaise with customs authorities, freight forwarders, shippers and clients for timely clearance.
• Calculate and manage duties, taxes and other charges.
• Review invoices and shipping docs for accuracy and compliance.
• Advise clients on tariff classifications and rules of origin.
• Manage bond and security documentation as required.
• Resolve customs issues to facilitate cargo movement.
• Maintain detailed records of all transactions.

Job description

We're currently looking for an experienced Licensed Customs Broker to join us in a temporary contract role for up to 12 months, with an immediate start.

Ideally we would like the candidate to be based in Mascot, however depending on your experience level, we are open to Brisbane and Perth locations as well. This is a full-time contract position that plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth movement of goods across international borders. As a Customs Broker, you will be responsible for facilitating the clearance of import and export shipments, managing complex customs documentation, and ensuring full compliance with all relevant regulations. This position is fundamental to our operations, directly supporting our clients' supply chain objectives and contributing to the efficiency and reliability that Vanguard Logistics Services is known for.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and lodging customs declarations and related documentation for import and export shipments
• Liaising with customs authorities, freight forwarders, shipping companies and clients to ensure timely clearance of goods
• Calculating and managing customs duties, taxes and other applicable charges
• Reviewing commercial invoices, packing lists and shipping documents for accuracy and compliance
• Advising clients on tariff classifications, rules of origin and customs regulations
• Managing bond and security documentation as required
• Identifying and resolving customs issues and delays to facilitate smooth cargo movement
• Maintaining detailed records of all customs transactions and documentation
• Staying current with changes to customs legislation, tariffs and trade agreements
• Providing excellent customer service and support throughout the customs clearance process

What we're looking for

• Current Customs Broker Licence issued by the Australian Customs and Border Force and CPD points
• Current AEP accreditaion with DAFF
• Strong knowledge of Australian Customs Act, Tariff Act, relevant import/export regulations and INCOTERMS
• Experience with BICON & COLS
• Proficiency with customs broking software systems and databases (Currently using CW1 & Clear.AI)
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when handling complex documentation
• Strong communication and negotiation skills to manage relationships with multiple stakeholders
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple shipments simultaneously
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve customs-related issues efficiently
• Experience with both Air and Sea cargo is advantageous
