Job summary

Bridge to Bay Logistics Pty Ltd in Sydney, NSW, seeks an experienced Customs Broker to manage customs clearance, import/export compliance, and regulatory adherence on a contract or casual basis. Based in Sydney, you will act as the link between clients, shipping partners and the Australian Border Force to navigate complex trade procedures.

The role requires an active ABF licence or eligibility, 3–5 years of relevant experience, and solid knowledge of Australian customs acts and tariff

Qualifications

• Active Customs Broker's Licence issued by the ABF or eligible to obtain one.
• 3–5 years of proven experience as a Customs Broker or in a similar customs clearance role.
• In-depth knowledge of Australian Customs Act, Tariff Act and relevant import/export legislation.
• Strong understanding of tariff classification, rules of origin and trade agreements.
• Proficiency with customs management systems and cargo tracking software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with team members and external stakeholders.
• Experience with international shipping procedures (sea, air, rail) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and lodging customs declarations, entry documents, and export permits with the appropriate customs authorities.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant Australian customs legislation, tariff classifications, and import/export regulations.
• Advising clients on customs procedures, duties, taxes, and regulatory requirements for imported and exported goods.
• Managing customs clearance processes for containerised and non-containerised shipments.
• Liaising with shipping companies, freight forwarders, warehouse operators, and government authorities to facilitate smooth cargo movement.
• Calculating and arranging payment of customs duties, taxes, and other applicable charges.
• Resolving customs issues, queries, and discrepancies with the Australian Border Force and other regulatory bodies.
• Maintaining accurate records and documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
• Providing clients with timely updates on shipment status and customs clearance progress.
• Staying current with changes in customs regulations, tariff codes, and international trade agreements.

Key responsibilities

What we're looking for

Active Customs Broker's Licence issued by the Australian Border Force (ABF) or current eligibility to obtain one

Minimum 3-5 years of proven experience as a Customs Broker or in a similar customs clearance role

In-depth knowledge of Australian Customs Act, Tariff Act, and relevant import/export legislation

Strong understanding of tariff classification, rules of origin, and preferential trade agreements

Proficiency with customs management systems and cargo tracking software

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex customs procedures clearly to clients

Meticulous attention to detail and strong organisational skills to manage multiple shipments simultaneously

Ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with team members and external stakeholders

Problem-solving mindset with the capacity to navigate regulatory challenges and find practical solutions

Professional demeanour and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards

Experience with international shipping procedures, including sea, air, and rail freight, is advantageous
