Job summary

People Group Recruitment is seeking a qualified Customs Broker to join their Melbourne team. You will handle import declarations, classifications and liaise with ABF/DAWE to ensure compliance and timely shipments.

The role requires an ABF license with DAWE accreditation, real-world customs broker experience, CPD points within the CPD year, and strong numeracy, literacy and analytical skills to deliver accurate results and excellent client service.

Qualifications

• Current ABF license including DAWE accreditation.
• Experience as a Customs Broker.
• CPD points within CPD year.
• Strong numeracy, literacy and analytical skills.
• Commercial focus and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Check and lodge Formal Import Declarations in accordance with Customs and Biosecurity legislation.
• Mentor compilers/classifiers to increase compliance standards.
• Processing and classifying commodities.
• Liaising with ABF and DAWE.
• Indicate errors or inaccuracies with import declarations to team members.
• Check expiry date of registered documents and discharge expired securities.
• Work to achieve KPIs for each client by ensuring successful processing of their import clearances.
• Perform other duties as specified by manager when required.
• Develop working relationships with internal and external clients.

About the Role - Customs Broker

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Check and lodge Formal Import Declarations in accordance with Customs and Biosecurity legislation
• To mentor compilers/classifiers in order to increase compliance standards
• Processing and classifying commodities
• Liaising with ABF and DAWE
• To indicate errors or inaccuracies with import declarations to team members
• Check expiry date of registered documents and discharge expired securities.
• To work to achieve KPIs required for each client at all times by ensuring the successful processing of their import clearances
• Perform other duties as specified by manager when required
• Developing strong working relationships with both internal and external clients

What you'll need to succeed:

• Current ABF license including DAWE accreditation
• Customs Brokers experience
• Obtain required CPD points within CPD year
• A high degree of numeracy, literacy, and analytical skills
• Commercial focus and excellent customer service skills
• Adaptable, ethical, and hands-on approach
• Ability to effectively interact and network with internal/external stakeholders to facilitate professional movement of all shipments
• First-class communication skills - written and verbal
• Ability to prioritize and time-manage
• Attention to detail
