Job summary

CatholicCare Sydney is seeking an experienced Counsellor Lead to guide a small team delivering phone counselling to carers across Australia. You will provide day-to-day operational and clinical leadership, supervision, and expert advice to ensure high-quality client outcomes.

The role involves monitoring KPIs, supporting the Practice Manager, and managing a small caseload within a hybrid, full-time setup based in Lewisham.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications in counselling, social work or psychology with professional membership (AASW, ACA or PACFA).
  • Experience coordinating services and supporting individuals and teams to achieve client outcomes.
  • Knowledge of relevant counselling legislation and standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to achieve objectives.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, support and clinical supervision to a team of counsellors to ensure service excellence.
  • Monitor service delivery against KPIs and report on performance.
  • Facilitate team meetings to foster a high performing service culture.
  • Provide supervision and support professional development initiatives.
  • Offer high level advice to the Practice Manager on delivery and performance.
  • Participate in a Duty Lead roster and manage workplace issues as needed.
  • Carry a small client caseload.

About the Role

You will join a skilled and motivated team of counselling professionals providing phone counselling to carers across Australia who are experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, stress and depression in the course of caring for people with a disability, a medical condition, mental illness or who are fragile due to age. The National Carer Gateway counselling service is open from 8am to 6pm nationally Monday to Friday.

The Counselling Lead will report to the Counselling Practice Manager and will be responsible for offering day‑to‑day operational and clinical leadership, providing expertise, guidance, and supervision to our Counsellors in the delivery of client services.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing direction, support, feedback and clinical supervision to a team of practitioners to achieve excellence in service delivery and client outcomes
  • Monitoring service delivery against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Supporting the Practice Manager to facilitate team meetings that foster a high performing service culture
  • Providing/facilitating supervision and informing professional development initiatives
  • Providing timely, high level and specialist advice to Practice Manager on service delivery issues, individual and team performance, service quality, and related matters
  • Participating in a Duty Lead roster serving as the first point of contact regarding workplace issues and escalating them to the Practice Manager as required
  • Carrying a small client caseload

About You

To be a successful candidate you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications in counselling, social work or psychology and professional membership e.g., AASW, ACA or PACFA as well as experience in digital service delivery
  • Industry relevant experience coordinating and implementing services, and supporting individuals and teams to deliver client outcomes
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation as required in the delivery of counselling services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to achieve agreed objectives
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to multi task and prioritise
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
