Job summary

Anglicare Sydney is seeking a Counsellor to provide professional and therapeutic counselling to clients facing complex emotional, relationship and family challenges, within our Community & Mission team. The role is offered on a Max Term, part-time basis, with caseload development, group work where appropriate, and collaboration with external services.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling.
• Graduate membership of PACFA, AASW, APS or similar.
• Training and clinical experience in family/relationship counselling, couples counselling and/or child and adolescent counselling.
• Demonstrated assessment and counselling experience with a minimum of 160 hours of client contact.

Responsibilities

Your opportunity

Working within our Community & Mission team and reporting to the Program Manager - Counselling, you'll provide therapeutic counselling and support tailored to each client's individual circumstances. In a Max Term, part time basis.

You'll work collaboratively with clients to develop clear and achievable case plans, provide professional therapeutic interventions and advocate for the support they need.

You'll also build strong referral pathways and community networks, connecting clients with external services and, where appropriate, church-based supports to help achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.

With integrity and resilience, you will:

• Provide professional therapeutic counselling to clients experiencing complex emotional, relationship and family challenges.
• Develop individualised case plans with clients, establishing clear and achievable goals.
• Deliver counselling focused on strengthening clients' capacity to achieve and sustain valued relationships.
• Undertake case work and contribute to group work where appropriate.
• Advocate for clients and develop strong community networks and external referral pathways.
• Maintain a full client caseload in accordance with program targets and funding requirements.
• Maintain accurate client documentation and statistical information in line with organisational, legislative and funding requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and participate in ongoing professional development and reflective practice.

What you'll bring

You're an empathetic and skilled counsellor who understands how to create a safe environment where people feel heard, respected and supported.

You'll bring strong assessment and therapeutic skills, with the ability to work sensitively with people navigating complex emotional and relationship issues. You know how to build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality and sound clinical judgement.

You're resilient and calm under pressure, comfortable working collaboratively and committed to continually developing your professional practice.

What's required:

• Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling.
• Graduate membership of a PACFA registered organisation, AASW, APS or similar professional body.
• Training and clinical experience in family and relationship counselling, couples counselling and/or child and adolescent counselling.
• Demonstrated assessment and counselling experience, including a minimum of 160 hours of client contact.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Current NSW Driver's Licence.
• Ability to meet Anglicare's probity requirements, including a Police Check and Working with Children Check.
