Job summary

The Department of Communities and Justice is recruiting for Correctional Officers at the Broken Hill location. The role includes hands-on supervision of inmates across prisons and court cells, with training provided and a clear path to a nationally recognised Certificate III in Correctional Practice.

You will receive a base salary plus allowances and penalty rates for eligible shifts. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria, including age 18+, Australian or NZ citizenship or permanent

Qualifications

Minimum age of 18 years.
Hold a current Provisional P1 Drivers Licence.
Be an Australia or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Willing to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practice.
Meet the medical standards to be a correctional officer and have reasonable level of fitness.
Visible body art/disclosures allowed as per dress policy.

Responsibilities

Headcounts and searches.
Monitor inmate movements and supervise activities.
Assist in running work and training programs.
Remain calm and make decisions under pressure; use of force trained.
