Job description

Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking an organised, community-focused Community Venues Coordinator to join our Community and Cultural Services team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with residents, businesses and community organisations, coordinating Council’s venues and helping bring local events, activities and community programs to life.

What We Offer:
  • Full-Time - Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award - Level 5 - $86,700 - $89,700 per annum (Depending on Qualifications and Experience) + Superannuation
  • Personal (Sick) Leave
  • Five weeks annual leave, with 17.5% leave loading
About The Role:

Reporting to the Manager Community and Cultural Services, you will coordinate the operation, presentation and hire of Council’s designated community venues and facilities. As the primary point of contact for hirers, you will deliver responsive customer service and manage venue arrangements from initial enquiry through to post-event follow-up.

The role combines community engagement, operational coordination and administrative accountability. You will work across Council teams and with service providers to ensure venues are ready for use, equipment is accounted for and operational matters are followed through to resolution.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing venue bookings, hire documentation, fees, bonds, access arrangements and venue handovers.
  • Building productive relationships with community groups, businesses and event organisers to encourage participation and appropriate use of Council facilities.
  • Coordinating venue setup, pack-down and cleaning requirements with hirers, Council teams and service providers.
  • Undertaking venue inspections, identifying maintenance and safety concerns, and coordinating timely follow-up of outstanding works.
  • Maintaining accurate equipment inventories, undertaking stocktakes and coordinating equipment hire, repairs and replacement requirements.
  • Maintaining booking and financial records, monitoring venue utilisation and providing operational reports and recommendations.
  • Improving booking processes, operating procedures and customer service to support efficient, reliable venue operations.

The role requires occasional work outside standard business hours.

About You:

You bring a strong service ethic, practical judgement and the ability to turn competing demands into well-coordinated outcomes. You are confident engaging with different community groups, setting clear expectations and resolving issues professionally.

You take responsibility for your work and follow through on commitments. Whether coordinating a booking, addressing a venue concern or reconciling equipment records, you recognise that attention to detail and clear communication make a difference to the community’s experience.

You will demonstrate:
  • Experience in venue coordination, facility operations, events, community services or a comparable customer-focused environment.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to independently prioritise work and coordinate multiple bookings and operational requirements.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to respond professionally to customer concerns.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and sound judgement in resolving routine matters and escalating issues requiring management attention.
  • Experience coordinating maintenance, cleaning or facility presentation requirements and monitoring actions through to completion.
  • Accurate administration, inventory management and recordkeeping skills, with confidence using booking systems and other digital platforms.
  • Financial awareness and the ability to apply established procedures when administering fees, invoices, expenditure and recoverable costs.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to identify practical improvements to service delivery.
Mandatory Requirements:
  • Police clearance.
  • Positive Working with Children Check (Blue Card), or the ability to obtain one.
  • Tertiary qualifications or relevant studies in event management, marketing, business management, community services, sports management or a related field.
  • Previous local government experience.
  • Experience working within community venues or related industries.
