Job summary

The Salvation Army Brisbane City Temple is seeking a Community Engagement Worker to lead initiatives that foster connection and support within the Brisbane City Temple community, including the 'Downstairs @167 Ann' student drop-in centre. The role is permanent and part-time, 22 hours per week, on-site in Brisbane, QLD.

You will report to the Corps Officers and help build partnerships, coordinate volunteers, and ensure safe, supportive services for students and community members.

Qualifications

• Preference for a Community Services qualification or equivalent.
• Experience working with students.
• Proven ability to facilitate community-based activities.
• Experience managing volunteers or employees.
• Commitment to The Salvation Army's mission and values.
• National criminal history check required before start.
• Working with Children check required before start.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the Student Couch Drop-in Centre, creating a welcoming environment that fosters connection, community engagement and access to appropriate support and referral services for students.
• Develop and deliver community programs and engagement initiatives that respond to local needs and build community connection.
• Build strong partnerships with community members, local organisations, churches, businesses and other stakeholders to support mission outcomes.
• Coordinate material aid, referrals and access to relevant support services for individuals and students.
• Recruit, train and support volunteers, ensuring a positive volunteer experience and compliance with organisational policies.
• Maintain accurate records, manage service delivery administration and proactively identify and address risks.

About the role

What you will bring

• Community Services and/or an equivalent qualification or experience is preferred.
• Experience working with Students.
• Demonstrated experience in facilitating community‑based activities.
• Experience managing volunteers or employees.
• Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
• A national criminal history check is required prior to commencement.
• A Working with Children check is required prior to commencement.

• Salary packaging up to $15,900 tax free + $2,650 meal entertainment benefit.
• Generous Paid Parental leave for primary (12 weeks) & secondary carers, Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks) and 5 days paid leave per year to experience working in other TSA programs or activities.
