Job summary

Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council in Bathurst is seeking a Community and Family Support Worker for the Safe and Strong Program. You will work with children, young people and families to provide early support, strengthen family capacity and connect families with needed services.

You will build culturally safe relationships, undertake strengths-based assessments, provide practical support and coordinate referrals to education, health and other services, contributing to improved outcomes.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualifications and/or experience in community services, social work, early childhood, youth work, family support or related field.
• Experience working with children, young people and/or families.
• Strong relationship-building, communication and engagement skills.
• A strengths-based, child-centred and trauma-aware approach.
• Understanding of family violence, child safety and mandatory reporting responsibilities.
• Ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal families, communities and service providers.
• Experience with assessment, case planning, referrals and coordination of support.
• Strong organisation and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team.
• Current Working with Children Check and Police Check.
• Current driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, trusting and culturally safe relationships with children, young people and families.
• Engage families through outreach, home visits, schools, early childhood services and other community settings.
• Undertake strengths-based assessments and work with families to develop meaningful goals and support plans.
• Provide practical support, advocacy and service navigation.
• Make warm referrals to appropriate services and follow up to ensure families are connected with the support they need.
• Support parents and caregivers to build confidence, skills and capacity.
• Support families to connect with early childhood education, health and child development services.
• Identify and respond appropriately to family violence and child safety concerns, including safety planning and escalation where required.
• Work collaboratively with schools, health services, community organisations, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and other service providers.
• Participate in local networks, interagency meetings and community initiatives.
• Maintain accurate case notes, client records and outcome data, including DEX reporting.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and quality service delivery.

Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council (OLALC) is looking for a passionate and community-focused Community and Family Support Worker to join our Safe and Strong Program in Bathurst.

This is an opportunity to work directly with children, young people and families to provide early support, strengthen family capacity and connect families with the services and supports they need to thrive.

You will work alongside families to identify their strengths, goals and needs, provide practical support, coordinate referrals and help families build stronger connections with community, education, health and other support services.
