Job summary

Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council in Bathurst is seeking a passionate Family Support Worker to join the Mirganha Program. You will work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, providing culturally safe, trauma-informed support and practical assistance.

Build trusting relationships, connect families with services, support wellbeing, culture and independence. This is an identified position open to First Nations people, with checks on Aboriginality as required.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Family Support or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in case management, family support or community services is preferred.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential.
• Understanding of trauma and intergenerational trauma is important.
• Commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

Identified Position

This is an Identified position and is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons, Australia’s First Nations people.

• A Confirmation of Aboriginality form; OR

About the Role

As a Family Support Worker, you will work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, providing culturally safe, trauma-informed support and practical assistance.

You will build trusting relationships, walk alongside families through challenges, connect them with services and support them to strengthen family wellbeing, cultural connection, confidence and independence.

About You

• An understanding of the experiences and challenges affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families

• The ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with families, community and service providers

• Strong organisational, documentation and time-management skills

• A proactive, compassionate and community-focused approach

• A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
