Job summary

Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council in Bathurst is seeking a passionate Family Support Worker to join the Mirganha Program. You will work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, providing culturally safe, trauma-informed support and practical assistance.

Build trusting relationships, connect families with services, support wellbeing, culture and independence. This is an identified position open to First Nations people, with checks on Aboriginality as required.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Family Support or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in case management, family support or community services is preferred.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential.
• Understanding of trauma and intergenerational trauma is important.
• Commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally safe case management and family support.
• Build strong, respectful and trusting relationships with families and community.
• Support families with safety planning, referrals and access to appropriate services.
• Assist families to identify their strengths, goals and pathways forward.
• Facilitate peer support groups, wellbeing activities and family-focused programs.
• Support connection to culture, community and relevant services.
• Maintain accurate case notes, case plans and client records.
• Work collaboratively with internal and external service providers.
• Participate in case conferencing, team meetings and program activities.
• Contribute to program planning, evaluation and continuous improvement.
