Job summary

Pegasus Leisure Group’s Steeples in Mornington is seeking a dedicated Commis Chef for a full-time position. You will prepare and cook menu items, support seniors during busy periods, and ensure food safety and cleanliness across the kitchen.

Qualifications

• Cert III or IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent experience
• Food Allergens and Do Food Safely Certificate required
• Experience in a busy pub, bistro or high-volume kitchen preferred
• Solid understanding of basic cooking methods and recipe execution
• Willingness to work a rotating roster including nights, weekends and public holidays

Job description

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Full Time Commis Chef to join the team at Steeples in Mornington. If you’re all about good food, good people and a bit of controlled chaos, we’d like to hear from you.

You’ll work with a solid kitchen team who know how to get the job done, back each other, and still have a laugh when things get hectic. From prep to pass, it’s hands-on, fast-paced and never boring.

Located on the Mornington Peninsula, Steeples is a dining and entertainment complex situated next to the Mornington Racecourse.

Featuring modern facilities including a family friendly bistro, a designated kids play area and an alfresco deck; there are dining experiences for all to enjoy. Along with an extensive modern menu with daily specials, Steeples caters to both children and adults alike.

About Us

Pegasus Leisure Group (PLG) is the hospitality arm of the Melbourne Racing Club, managing a growing network of 17 pubs, clubs and hospitality venues across Victoria. Our venues include bistros, sports bars, function spaces and gaming areas, each focused on delivering great hospitality experiences within their local communities.

What You’ll Be Doing In The Kitchen

• Cooking and prepping menu items to our high-quality standards
• Jumping in to support senior chefs with prep, plating and service when things get busy
• Keeping food safety and hygiene locked in at all times (non-negotiable)
• Running your section during service and keeping things moving on the pass
• Keeping your station clean, organised and ready for the next wave of tickets

What We’re Looking For

• Cert III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent experience in the real world)
• Food Allergens and Do Food Safely Certificate
• Experience in a busy pub, bistro or high-volume kitchen
• Solid understanding of basic cooking methods and how to execute a recipe properly
• Willingness to work a rotating roster including nights, weekends and public holidays
