Job summary

Royal Automobile Club of Queensland is seeking a Cloud Principal to lead the evolution of RACQ’s cloud platforms, focusing on secure, scalable, and cost-effective services. You’ll blend strategic leadership with coaching to raise cloud capability across engineering, architecture, delivery and operations teams.

You’ll own cloud strategy and governance, drive DevOps, IaC and platform engineering, and mentor teams to deliver reliable, high-performing cloud solutions for Queenslanders.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing and operating enterprise cloud platforms.
• Strong certification: Azure Solutions Architect and DevOps Engineer, or equivalent.
• Ability to influence without authority and coach teams.

Responsibilities

• Own cloud strategy, roadmaps, standards and engineering practices.
• Develop reusable cloud services, deployment frameworks and self-service capabilities.
• Drive platform engineering, DevOps, CI/CD and IaC practices.
• Improve developer experience, delivery speed, service reliability and operational efficiency.
• Strengthen cloud governance, security, risk, compliance and operational controls.
• Lead FinOps, cloud cost forecasting and cost governance.
• Establish service health measures, reporting, dashboards and metrics.
• Provide technical leadership for cloud transformation and architecture decisions.
• Coach teams and build cloud capability through mentoring.

About the role
You’ll lead the evolution of RACQ’s cloud platforms, ensuring services are secure, resilient, scalable, governed and cost-effective. You’ll combine strategic leadership with practical coaching to build cloud capability across engineering, architecture, delivery and operational teams.

• Own cloud strategy, roadmaps, architecture patterns, standards and engineering practices.
• Develop reusable cloud services, deployment frameworks, automation and self-service capabilities.
• Drive platform engineering, DevOps, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Improve developer experience, delivery speed, service reliability and operational efficiency.
• Strengthen cloud governance, security, risk, compliance and operational controls.
• Lead FinOps, cloud financial management, cost optimisation, forecasting and cost governance.
• Establish service health measures, reporting, dashboards and metrics to guide investment and improvement.
• Provide technical leadership for cloud transformation, modernisation, architecture reviews and key technology decisions.
• Coach teams and build cloud capability through mentoring, knowledge sharing and communities of practice.

About you
You’re an experienced cloud professional who combines deep technical capability with strategic thinking and a collaborative leadership style. You can influence without direct authority, simplify complex challenges and deliver secure, practical and sustainable outcomes.

• Demonstrated expertise designing and operating enterprise cloud platforms.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of cloud architecture, networking, identity, security and resilience.
• Experience with automation, Infrastructure as Code, DevOps and CI/CD.
• Strong understanding of platform engineering and developer experience.
• Experience with cloud migration, modernisation, service roadmaps, health metrics and operational reporting.
• Strong coaching, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Azure Solutions Architect and DevOps Engineer certifications, or equivalent expertise.
• Availability to participate in on-call and out-of-hours support.
