Job summary

Tallow Tree Services in the Byron Bay area is seeking an experienced Climbing Arborist to join our safety-focused team. This full-time on-site role involves performing specialised climbing, pruning and tree care for residential and commercial properties across the Northern Rivers region.

You'll work with ground crews, maintain equipment to high standards and contribute to customer safety and satisfaction while advancing your arboricultural skills through real-world jobs and ongoing development.

Qualifications

• Current arboricultural qualifications, AQF Level III Climbing Arborist certification or equivalent UK.
• Proven experience as climbing arborist in a professional business.
• Understanding of tree biology, species identification and best practices.
• Proficiency with climbing equipment, rigging systems and rope access techniques.
• Physical fitness with ability to work safely at significant heights.
• A valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
• Strong communication and professional client interaction.
• EWP and High Risk license for 11m+ (desirable).
• MR truck license or higher (desirable).
• Experience with challenging tree removal operations, crane-assisted work or emergency response (desirable).
• Knowledge of local tree species and environmental conditions in the Northern Rivers region (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Safely climb and navigate trees using professional rigging and safety equipment.
• Perform crown pruning, thinning, deadwood removal and other arboricultural practices.
• Conduct tree assessments to identify hazards, diseases and structural issues with client recommendations.
• Operate and maintain climbing equipment, ropes, harnesses and tools per safety standards.
• Ensure all work complies with Australian Standards for arboriculture and health and safety regulations.
• Work effectively as part of a team with ground crew and supervisors.
• Maintain clean and safe work sites.
• Maintain detailed records of work completed and provide professional client advice.
• Respond to emergencies such as storm damage and hazardous removals.
• Contribute to continuous safety and operational improvements.

Tallow Tree Services is seeking experienced and qualified Climbing Arborists to join our dynamic team servicing the Byron Bay area. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work in a rewarding role with a safety focused and supportive team. As a Climbing Arborist, you will be at the forefront of our tree care operations, performing specialised climbing and pruning work on a variety of trees across residential and commercial properties. You will work primarily on-site across the Northern Rivers region, engaging directly with clients and our ground support team.

What you'll be doing

Safely climb and navigate trees of varying heights and species using professional rigging and safety equipment

Perform crown pruning, thinning, deadwood removal and other arboricultural practices to maintain tree health and structure

Conduct tree assessments to identify hazards, diseases and structural issues, providing recommendations to clients

Operate and maintain climbing equipment, ropes, harnesses and other specialised tools in accordance with safety standards

Ensure all work complies with Australian Standards for arboriculture and relevant health and safety regulations

Work effectively as part of a team, communicating with ground crew and supervisors throughout operations

Maintaining clean and safe work sites

Maintain detailed records of work completed and provide professional advice to clients

Respond to emergency situations such as storm damage and hazardous tree removal

Contribute to continuous improvement in safety practices and operational efficiency

What we're looking for

Current arboricultural qualifications, minimum AQF Level III Climbing Arborist certification or equivalent UK.

Proven experience working as a climbing arborist in a professional arboricultural business

Understanding of tree biology, species identification and arboricultural best practices

Proficiency with climbing equipment, rigging systems and rope access techniques

Physical fitness with the ability to work safely at significant heights

A valid driver's licence and reliable access to transport

Strong communication skills and a professional approach to client interactions

Problem-solving ability and attention to detail in completing work to high standards

EWP and High Risk license for 11m or more (desirable)

MR truck license or higher (desirable)

Experience with challenging tree removal operations, crane assisted tree work or emergency response work (desirable)

Knowledge of local tree species and environmental conditions in the Northern Rivers region (desirable)
