Civil Project Engineer / Project Manager – Civil, FRP & Rail Infrastructure

Civil Project Engineer / Project Manager – Civil, FRP & Rail Infrastructure

Brunton Engineering | Full-Time | Competitive Salary | Immediate Start

About Brunton Engineering

We don't build ordinary projects. We deliver complex civil, structural steel and infrastructure works across Australia's rail, road, industrial and construction sectors.

Brunton Engineering is an established civil and structural contractor specialising in technically challenging infrastructure projects, including bridge construction and rehabilitation, rail infrastructure, reinforced concrete works and structural steel fabrication and installation.

We're looking for an experienced Civil Project Engineer or Project Manager who enjoys being involved in the practical delivery of projects, takes ownership of their work and understands what it takes to get things built.

This isn't a purely office-based engineering role. We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable reviewing drawings, coordinating subcontractors, managing project documentation and being on site solving construction challenges.

What You'll Be Doing

Managing and coordinating the delivery of civil and structural infrastructure projects from mobilisation through to completion.

Planning and supervising formwork, reinforcement and concrete (FRP) works, including foundations, bridge substructures, abutments, retaining walls and other reinforced concrete structures.

Coordinating civil works including earthworks, excavation, drainage, piling, temporary works and structural installations.

Supporting the delivery of rail infrastructure projects, including bridge renewals, culvert works and construction within operational rail corridors.

Preparing construction methodologies, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and other project documentation.

Managing subcontractors, suppliers, plant, materials and site resources.

Reviewing engineering drawings, specifications and technical requirements to ensure constructability and compliance.

Managing Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, variations, progress claims and project reporting.

Monitoring project costs, budgets, procurement, schedules and construction productivity.

Coordinating quality inspections, hold points, testing and handover documentation.

Working closely with Brunton's management, workshop and site teams to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

What We're Looking For

A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.

Demonstrated experience delivering civil construction projects, particularly formwork, reinforcement and concrete (FRP) works.

Practical understanding of civil construction methodologies, construction sequencing and site operations.

Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and construction personnel.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and construction documentation.

Strong understanding of construction quality assurance, including ITPs, inspections, testing and project handover requirements.

Experience managing project costs, procurement, variations and construction programs.

Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.

A proactive approach to safety, quality and project delivery.

Current Australian driver's licence and White Card.

We are specifically looking for someone with genuine construction delivery experience, not solely design or consultancy experience.

Additional Experience Highly Regarded

Rail infrastructure construction, particularly projects delivered for V/Line, ARTC, Metro Trains Melbourne or major rail contractors.

Bridge construction, replacement, strengthening and rehabilitation.

FRP works associated with bridge decks, abutments, piers, footings and retaining structures.

Working within operational rail corridors, including rail occupations, possessions and constrained access environments.

Civil earthworks, drainage, piling and temporary works.

Structural steel installation, heavy lifting and crane operations.

Preparation of construction methodologies and detailed staging plans.

Working within ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.

Experience with project management software, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD or similar applications.

Experience working directly with government authorities, principal contractors and infrastructure asset owners.

The Person We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who takes ownership of projects and understands that successful construction requires more than good paperwork.

You'll be someone who:

Enjoys being on site and involved in the practical challenges of construction.

Can think ahead, identify problems early and develop workable solutions.

Understands the relationship between construction methodology, productivity, cost and program.

Takes pride in delivering quality work and maintaining strong client relationships.

Is comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions.

Can manage multiple priorities without losing attention to detail.

Works collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople, subcontractors and management.

Is motivated by the opportunity to contribute to technically challenging infrastructure projects.

What We Offer

Competitive salary commensurate with experience and capability.

Full-time employment with an established and growing infrastructure contractor.

Exposure to a diverse range of civil, structural and rail infrastructure projects.

The opportunity to take genuine ownership of projects from planning through to completion.

Direct involvement with company management and project delivery teams.

A practical, collaborative working environment with minimal unnecessary bureaucracy.

Opportunities for professional development.
