As a Case Worker, you'll provide intensive, relationship-based case management and outreach support to young people across the Moreton Bay region, including Redcliffe, Caboolture and Pine Rivers. You'll work flexibly in young people's own environments, including homes, schools, parks, courtrooms and other community settings.
Build trusting, consistent relationships with young people, maintaining connection through challenges, setbacks and periods of disengagement, and creating opportunities for young people to reconnect when they're ready.
Undertake individualised assessments and develop practical support plans alongside young people, recognising their strengths, goals, risks and needs.
Support young people to understand and navigate their bail conditions, addressing practical barriers that may affect their safety, stability or ability to meet requirements.
Deliver individualised interventions that strengthen emotional regulation, problem-solving, relationships and the skills needed to navigate challenging situations.
Provide practical outreach support, including transport, supported appointments and assistance with housing, education, employment, health and other needs.
Work alongside families, carers, cultural supports and other significant people to strengthen relationships and protective factors.
Collaborate with Youth Justice, courts, police, education, health and community services to provide coordinated support and continuity of care.
Monitor and respond to changing circumstances and risks, participate in case reviews and maintain accurate records.
Contribute to reflective practice, team learning and continuous improvement, including listening to and learning from young people's experiences and feedback.
We're looking for people who genuinely connect with our approach to working alongside young people and bring a combination of relevant experience, skills, personal qualities and values.
You believe every young person deserves dignity, respect, care and opportunity, regardless of their circumstances or behaviour. You have a natural ability to build rapport quickly, practise unconditional positive regard, remain curious about what sits beneath behaviour, and recognise that trust, consistency and genuine relationships are central to meaningful change.
You understand that young people are still growing and learning, and that their experiences, relationships and circumstances influence their behaviour. You believe in building on their strengths and supporting their potential, while balancing accountability, professional boundaries and community safety with genuine care for their wellbeing and future.
You bring cultural humility, respect for diversity and a commitment to equity. You are comfortable working in young people's own environments, whether at home, in court, on the street or in the community. You meet young people where they are emotionally and socially, respecting their experiences, perspectives and readiness, and adapting your approach to their individual needs.
You are self-aware, open to feedback and willing to question your own assumptions and learn from experience. You recognise and manage your own responses, understand the emotional demands of the work and take responsibility for your wellbeing, professional growth and seeking support when needed.
You can hold multiple truths, navigate competing perspectives and sit with tension, uncertainty and discomfort. You bring sound judgement, adaptability and persistence, taking harm and risk seriously while remaining curious, compassionate and focused on finding practical ways forward.
You work well with colleagues, families, partners and complex service systems, advocating for young people and contributing to coordinated support. You bring integrity, initiative and a commitment to accurate documentation, shared learning, continuous improvement and a positive, supportive team culture.
Experience working directly with young people experiencing complex circumstances, particularly in youth work, outreach, case management, youth justice or related community services.
Strong relationship-building skills and demonstrated ability to engage young people who may have experienced difficulty trusting or accessing services.
Experience in assessment, individualised planning, practical intervention and coordinated support.
An understanding of adolescent development, trauma, the impacts of disadvantage and the systems affecting young people's lives.
Knowledge of youth justice, child safety, education, housing and community service systems, or the ability to develop this knowledge quickly.
Strong communication, advocacy, organisation and documentation skills.
The ability to work independently in community settings while contributing to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
A clear commitment to child-safe practice, including listening to young people, respecting their rights and boundaries, recognising and responding to concerns, and helping create an environment where safety is everyone's responsibility.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in youth work, social work, human services or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated capability through relevant professional and lived experience.
We welcome applicants with experience or knowledge in family work, alcohol and other drugs, domestic and family violence, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge and community connections.
Appointment is subject to RAYS’ child-safe recruitment and screening requirements, including relevant reference and background checks. You will also need:
A current Queensland driver licence.
A current Blue Card or the ability to obtain one.
A current First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain these.
Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, weekends and public holidays, in response to young people's needs.
RAYS welcomes applications from people of diverse backgrounds and experiences. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse applicants and people with relevant lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply. We welcome requests for adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
