Job description

The Australian Mining Review (AMR) is an industry-leading publication and media platform serving Australia’s mining sector. We’re expanding our commercial team and looking for an energetic, driven and commercially minded Business Development Manager (BDM) to help fuel our next stage of growth.

This is a true win-and-retain sales role. You’ll be responsible for building your own pipeline and winning new business, while also developing strong relationships with existing clients, identifying new opportunities within your portfolio and growing accounts over time.

We’re looking for someone who loves the sales game — someone who enjoys opening doors, building relationships, understanding what makes a client tick and turning opportunities into long-term commercial partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

New Business Development

Proactively identify, research and engage new prospects across the mining and mining supplier ecosystem.

Build your own pipeline through outbound prospecting, referrals, networking and lead follow-up.

Run outbound campaigns with confidence, enthusiasm and strong commercial awareness.

Secure discovery calls, uncover client objectives and position AMR’s advertising, content and digital solutions accordingly.

Run structured sales meetings and confidently progress opportunities from first conversation through to close.

Consistently identify new revenue opportunities and bring new clients into the AMR portfolio.

Account Management & Growth

Build strong, genuine relationships with an existing portfolio of AMR clients.

Understand each client’s business, objectives, target markets and upcoming priorities.

Proactively identify opportunities to grow accounts through additional campaigns, products and longer-term partnerships.

Maintain regular contact with clients rather than relying solely on renewal cycles.

Retain and renew existing business while continually looking for opportunities to increase client value.

Become a trusted commercial partner who clients want to continue working with.

Build and maintain a healthy, well-qualified sales pipeline through HubSpot.

Prepare tailored proposals, campaign concepts and advertising recommendations based on client needs.

Follow up opportunities with speed, persistence and professionalism.

Maintain accurate records of sales activity, opportunities and client communications.

Take ownership of your pipeline from prospecting through to close, delivery and renewal.

Client Reactivation

Re-engage lapsed and dormant clients through structured, proactive outreach.

Understand why previous clients stopped advertising and identify opportunities to bring them back.

Present new products, campaign ideas and value propositions relevant to their current objectives.

Turn dormant relationships into active revenue opportunities.

Work closely with sales leadership, editorial, marketing and operations to develop strong client solutions.

Contribute to weekly team meetings, pipeline reviews and sales strategy sessions.

Share market feedback, client insights and emerging opportunities with the wider team.

Continuously develop your understanding of the Australian mining industry and the businesses operating within it.

What We’re Looking For

We want a high-energy, curious and ambitious individual who enjoys winning business but understands that great salespeople don’t disappear once the deal is signed.

Previous sales experience is advantageous, but attitude, commercial instinct and work ethic matter enormously to us. We can teach our products and the mining industry; we’re looking for someone with the drive to learn, improve and perform.

You’ll Succeed in This Role If You Are:

A natural hunter. You’re comfortable picking up the phone, approaching new people and creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to arrive.

A relationship builder. You enjoy getting to know clients and turning an initial sale into a long-term commercial relationship.

Growth-minded. You’re always thinking about the next opportunity — whether that’s a new client, a renewal, an upsell or a broader partnership.

Enthusiastic and resilient. You bring energy to your work, handle rejection well and keep moving.

A strong communicator. You can adapt your approach to everyone from a small local supplier to senior leaders within national mining businesses.

Organised and accountable. You stay on top of follow-ups, proposals, meetings and pipeline activity without dropping the ball.

Commercially smart. You’re interested in how businesses make money, what clients are trying to achieve and how to demonstrate genuine value.

Coachable and collaborative. You take feedback well, want to improve and enjoy being part of a high-performance sales environment.

Curious about mining and B2B media. Industry experience isn’t essential, but a genuine willingness to learn is.
