Job summary

Crowne Plaza Melbourne Carlton, part of InterContinental Hotels Group, is seeking a Breakfast Commis Chef to join our busy hotel kitchen. The role begins at 5:00am and ends by 1:00pm, with the remainder of the day free for personal time.

You will support our breakfast team in preparing a range of dishes, maintaining quality, consistency, and presentation while adhering to standardized recipes and portion sizes. A passion for food and a drive to learn are essential.

Qualifications

• Formal qualifications and demonstrated experience working in a similar role in a busy restaurant or hotel.
• Sound working knowledge of various cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen equipment.
• Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods.
• The ability to work efficiently under pressure and to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with other departments and staff.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.
• A passion for food and a desire to continuously learn and develop new skills.

Responsibilities

• Playing a critical role in our breakfast culinary team, by delivering a seamless and exceptional experience for hotel guests.
• Assisting in the preparation of a diverse range of meals, for breakfast, lunch and dinner and special menu items, adhering to standardized recipes and portion sizes.
• Ensuring all food items are of the highest quality and cooked to the required specifications, maintaining consistency in taste, presentation, and texture.
• Monitoring and manage inventory levels of food and kitchen supplies, ensuring timely requisition of items as needed.
• Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen workspace, following proper sanitation and food safety guidelines.
• Adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations, including safe food handling, storage, and preparation techniques.
• Coordinating with other departments, such as banquet and catering, to fulfil special orders and dietary requirements
• Conducting regular quality control checks to ensure the freshness, taste, and appearance of food items.
• Collaborating with the front-of-house staff to ensure efficient food delivery and guest satisfaction.
