Job summary

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is seeking a capable Branch Librarian to lead the day-to-day delivery of high-quality branch library services based in Port Macquarie.

This role combines operational oversight with professional guidance to staff, ensuring services are accessible, responsive and aligned to community needs, while supporting reference services, local studies and collection development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree qualifications in Library and Information Studies or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
• Eligible for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).

Responsibilities

• Supporting the day-to-day operation of the branch to ensure consistent, customer-focused services.
• Providing guidance and workflow oversight to Library Assistants and junior staff.
• Participating in frontline service delivery and modelling high standards of customer service.
• Resolving customer inquiries and operational issues using sound professional judgement.
• Supporting access to collections, reference resources and local studies materials.
• Contributing to the planning and delivery of programs, displays and branch activities.
• Building positive relationships with local schools, community groups and stakeholders.
• Identifying opportunities for operational improvement and service enhancement.
• Researching and applying contemporary library practices and technologies.

Education
