Job summary

Nillumbik Shire Council in Melbourne's outer region is seeking a Biodiversity Officer to protect and enhance biodiversity, support landholders and partner organisations, and contribute to ecological health and climate resilience.

You will provide evidence-based biodiversity advice, deliver conservation projects, and collaborate with landholders, community groups and partner organisations to support sustainable land management and community participation.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in ecology, natural resource management or a related discipline, together with demonstrated experience delivering biodiversity conservation projects and programs
• A strong understanding of indigenous plants and animals, vegetation communities, weeds, ecological processes and best-practice land management relevant to Nillumbik
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to provide practical, evidence-based advice to landholders, community groups and Council teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support implementation of Council's Biodiversity Strategy by managing or assisting with delivery of agreed projects and programs
• Support private landholders to protect and enhance biodiversity on their properties through practical advice, partnerships and land-management programs
• Support Council projects and programs by providing biodiversity advice that protects biodiversity values and promotes positive environmental outcomes
• Build community knowledge and participation in biodiversity conservation through education, engagement and opportunities to connect with nature
• Contribute to biodiversity monitoring, evaluation and reporting to inform priorities and improve programs.
