Job summary

EatClub, Australia’s leading dining platform, is hiring a Backend Engineer to join our scaleup team. You’ll build Java backend services on serverless AWS, design and ship features end-to-end with product, frontend and engineering teammates.

You’ll own API design, improve performance, and write automated tests while collaborating across squads to extend GraphQL and REST APIs as EatClub grows. A passion for dining tech and strong communication are valued.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of commercial Java development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science or related field.
• Experience building serverless APIs and REST/GraphQL APIs.
• Strong SQL and NoSQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.).
• Experience with automated testing and testable code.
• Familiarity with modern architectures and Git.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with product and frontend engineers.
• Australian working rights

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services in Java.
• Develop and maintain serverless APIs and consume REST/GraphQL APIs.
• Take features from idea to production with cross-functional teams.
• Improve performance, reliability and scalability of systems.
• Debug and resolve issues; fix root causes, not symptoms.
• Write automated tests and keep code easy to test and change.
• Review code and share knowledge with the team.
