Job summary

EatClub is hiring a Backend Engineer in Melbourne to build scalable Java services on serverless AWS. You will design APIs, extend REST/GraphQL endpoints, and ship features end-to-end with product and frontend teams.

Expect ownership, variety across the stack, and a fast-paced environment that values reliability and performance. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of Java dev experience, strong database skills, automated testing habits, and proven ability to work across the stack with product teams

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of commercial Java development experience.
• Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related.
• Experience building serverless APIs.
• Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Strong SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL, Postgres).
• Performance tuning and debugging experience.
• Habit of writing automated tests.
• Familiarity with modern architectures and design patterns.
• Proficient in Git and written communication.
• Full working rights in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Designing and building scalable backend services in Java.
• Developing and maintaining serverless APIs, and building/resting GraphQL APIs.
• Taking features from idea to production with product and frontend teammates.
• Improving performance, reliability and scalability of systems.
• Debugging issues and fixing root causes, not just symptoms.
• Writing automated tests and keeping code easy to test and change.
• Reviewing code and sharing knowledge with the team.
