Job summary

EatClub in Brisbane, Australia is hiring a Backend Engineer to build scalable services in Java, on serverless AWS, and to ship features end-to-end with product, frontend and engineering teams.

You’ll own API design, improve performance, and ensure reliability as our platform serves millions of users and thousands of venues, with a strong focus on testable code, observability, and collaboration in a fast-moving scaleup.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of commercial experience as a Java developer.
• Strong Java backend skills and a solid grounding in software development principles.
• Experience building serverless APIs.
• Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL, Postgres, etc.).
• Habit of writing automated tests and testable code.

Responsibilities

• Designing and building scalable backend services in Java.
• Developing and maintaining serverless APIs, and building and consuming REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Taking features from idea to production with product and frontend teammates.
• Improving performance, reliability and scalability of systems.
• Debugging and resolving technical issues and fixing root causes.
• Writing automated tests and keeping code easy to test and change.
• Reviewing code and sharing knowledge with the team.
