Job summary

City of Perth is seeking an Assistant Traffic Management Engineer to support traffic management planning across the City, including reviewing Traffic Management Plans for construction works and events in the CBD. You will liaise with stakeholders and provide technical advice to minimise impacts on safety, transport and economic activity.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, or experience in a related field.
• Well‑developed analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
• Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet set timeframes.
• Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide technical advice and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• The ability to exercise independent professional judgement, work under limited direction and make sound operational decisions.
• Proficiency in general computer systems and the Microsoft Office suite.

• Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to support the development, assessment and approval of Traffic Management Plans.
• Providing technical advice to help coordinate road works and events while minimising impacts on public safety, transport and economic activity.
• Inspecting and monitoring traffic management measures to ensure ongoing compliance; and
• Overseeing the day‑to‑day Traffic Management Planning function during the Traffic Management Engineer’s absence.

The Opportunity

As the Assistant Traffic Management Engineer at the City of Perth, you will support the coordination of traffic management planning activities across the City. This includes reviewing and approving Traffic Management Plans for construction works and events, conducting site inspections and helping ensure approved traffic management measures remain compliant.

Reporting to the Lead Urban Transport within our Transport and Urban Design team, your responsibilities would primarily include:

• Reviewing and approving Traffic Management Plans for planned works and events in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, policies and City requirements;


• Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to support the development, assessment and approval of Traffic Management Plans;


• Providing technical advice to help coordinate road works and events while minimising impacts on public safety, transport and economic activity;


• Inspecting and monitoring traffic management measures to ensure ongoing compliance; and


• Overseeing the day‑to‑day Traffic Management Planning function during the Traffic Management Engineer’s absence.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, or experience in a related field;


• Well‑developed analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills;


• Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet set timeframes;


• Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide technical advice and work effectively with diverse stakeholders;

• Proficiency in general computer systems and the Microsoft Office suite.

Experience designing or reviewing Traffic Management Plans, knowledge of traffic engineering and road safety principles, and Advanced Worksite Traffic Management accreditation will be highly regarded.

Eligibility

To be eligible to work for us, you will need to demonstrate:

• A right to work in Australia, such as a birth certificate, current passport or current visa;


• A current ‘C’ class Australian driver’s licence;


• Basic Worksite Traffic Management accreditation;


• A Construction Induction Card (White or Blue Card), or the ability to obtain one; and


• A satisfactory National Police Clearance dated within the past three months.
