Job summary

Discord in Australia seeks an experienced Regulatory Counsel to lead APAC regulatory engagement, respond to inquiries, and build relationships with regulators while aligning with policy and product teams.

The role requires 7+ years in internet regulatory law, Australian licensure, and strong writing and collaboration skills. This full-time position is based in Australia and supported via an international PEO.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in regulatory law related to Internet regulation (privacy, safety, data protection, consumer law).
• Licensed to practice law in Australia.
• Experience with or for a consumer-facing tech/messaging/gaming company.
• Deep knowledge of Australia’s regulatory landscape (privacy, platform rules, consumer protection).
• Familiarity with APAC regulatory environments and regional requirements.
• Experience preparing responses to information requests and risk reports.
• Experience engaging with regulators in Australia and other APAC countries.
• Excellent writing and communication tailored to different audiences.
• Willingness to handle a range of projects with humility and collaboration.
• High emotional intelligence and growth mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead and implement Discord’s responses to regulatory requests, gathering data and drafting precise responses.
• Meet with regulators and present Discord’s approach to regulatory compliance across the APAC region.
• Prepare risk assessments, online safety reports, and related regulatory submissions.
• Monitor evolving laws with Policy Legal and Product Legal, advising on impact to Discord.
• Collaborate with public policy and communications on engagement and safety messaging.
• Maintain canonical templates for company positions on privacy, security, teen safety, etc.
