Job summary

NSW Health's St Vincent’s Public Hospital in Sydney seeks a part‑time Counsellor for the Alcohol and Drug Outpatients Service (ADSOP). You will deliver high‑quality assessment, counselling and interventions for clients with alcohol and other drug concerns, contributing to integrated, client‑centred care.

You will conduct psychosocial assessments, develop care plans and participate in supervision, service improvement and education initiatives.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling and eligibility for membership.
• Experience supporting people with alcohol and other drug concerns, including complex needs.
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to deliver brief interventions.
• Knowledge of health and social factors affecting people who use drugs.
• Commitment to harm reduction and recovery‑oriented, person‑centred support.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; proficient with IT and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Deliver assessment, counselling and therapeutic interventions for people who use alcohol and other drugs.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments, intake consultations and ongoing sessions.
• Develop and review multidisciplinary care plans and coordinate referrals.
• Facilitate therapeutic groups and educate service providers and community stakeholders.
• Participate in clinical reviews, outcomes measurement and discharge planning.
• Contribute to quality improvement and ongoing professional development.
