Job summary

Westmead Hospital, part of NSW Health, is seeking a Telecommunication & Information Officer to join the 24/7 switchboard team. You’ll be the first contact for patients, visitors and staff, delivering professional customer service while coordinating paging and information desk duties.

In a fast-paced hospital setting, you’ll maintain rosters, telecom databases and ensure reliable service, with opportunities for after-hours duties and ongoing quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Emergency procedures: quick and precise decisions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent professional customer service.
• Ability to follow procedures accurately.
• Experience with a Windows-based switchboard, databases and applications.
• Clear administrative skills and typing speed of at least 35 wpm.
• Proven ability to work unsupervised.

Responsibilities

• Operate the hospital switchboard, paging system and information desk, including emergency calls.
• Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, visitors and staff after hours.
• Maintain on-call rosters and telecommunications databases for reliable service.
• Test communication equipment and escalate faults to support safe hospital operations.
• Collaborate with colleagues to meet service standards and improve customer experience.
