Job description

Monadelphous is seeking an experienced Contracts Lead to join a major mining project based in Port Hedland. This is a key leadership role responsible for the end-to-end management of project contracts and commercial administration across a large-scale brownfield and greenfield mining development.

The successful candidate can be Perth-based with regular travel to site or work on a FIFO basis on a 2:1 roster. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting project delivery through effective contract strategy, procurement support, claims management, contractor performance oversight, and commercial risk mitigation.

Working with Monadelphous offers many benefits, some of which include:

  • Perth‑based with occasional site travel or FIFO 2:1 (up to you!)
  • Opportunity to support a major project across SMPE&I
  • A culture built on safety, wellbeing and high‑performance delivery

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lead the end-to-end contract management function for a major mining project from construction through to project completion.
  • Manage and administer head contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, project requirements, and governance frameworks.
  • Oversee the management of subcontractor agreements, including engagement, performance monitoring, variations, claims, and contract close-out activities.
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice to project leadership, construction teams, and key stakeholders.
  • Review, negotiate, and administer construction, engineering, services, and supply contracts.
  • Manage contractor and subcontractor correspondence, notices, variations, extensions of time (EOTs), and contractual claims.
  • Support procurement, tender evaluation, and contract award processes where required.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance against contractual obligations, project milestones, and key performance indicators.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks to support successful project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, head contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare commercial reports, forecasts, contract status updates, and recommendations for project leadership.
  • Facilitate dispute avoidance and resolution through proactive contract management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure all contractual activities are undertaken in accordance with company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.

What you’ll bring:

  • Extensive experience in Contracts Management, Commercial Management, or Senior Contract Administration within the mining, resources, infrastructure, or construction sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing both head contractor and subcontractor commercial relationships on major projects.
  • Proven track record administering high-value construction and engineering contracts in a project delivery environment.
  • Strong understanding of contract forms including AS4000, AS2124, AS4902, NEC, and other industry-standard agreements.
  • Experience managing contractual claims, variations, EOTs, risk registers, and dispute resolution processes.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to identify opportunities to minimise risk and maximise project outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence outcomes across multiple levels of an organisation.
  • Experience working on major mining, minerals processing, iron ore, or resources projects will be highly regarded.
  • Tertiary qualification in Law, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced project environment.
