Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Structural Engineer to join their dedicated team in Queenstown . This role focuses on the structural design and analysis of various building projects, ensuring the safety, stability, and longevity of structures. You will be involved in all phases of the design process, from conceptualization through to construction support. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions. This position requires effective collaboration with architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders. We are looking for a professional eager to contribute to significant building developments within the Eastern Cape region and advance their career in structural engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for new buildings and modifications to existing structures.
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, and calculation reports using industry-standard software.
• Collaborate with architects and other design team members to ensure integrated and efficient designs.
• Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and address any structural issues that arise.
• Review shop drawings submitted by contractors to ensure compliance with design intent.
• Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) from contractors and provide timely technical support.
• Assess the structural condition of existing buildings and provide recommendations for repair or upgrade.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in structural engineering, building codes, and materials.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and building regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Pr. Eng registration is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in structural engineering design.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, Prokon) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
• Thorough knowledge of South African building codes and structural design principles.
• Experience with various building materials such as concrete, steel, and masonry.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Detail-oriented and committed to producing accurate and high-quality engineering work.
• Willingness to travel to project sites within the Queenstown area and surrounding regions as needed.
