Job summary

Camunda is seeking a Backend Senior Software Engineer on the Data Layer team. You will build and evolve the storage and query layer for Camunda 8, spanning relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, to keep data fast, accurate, and scalable.

You will lead end-to-end initiatives, collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and Support, and help shape data processing and exposure to customers while maintaining a strong focus on reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as a backend engineer in Java with production data stores.
• Deep experience with relational DBs and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Led medium-to-large engineering initiatives end-to-end.
• Ability to diagnose slow queries and index usage in production.
• Strong remote-first communication with Product, Design, QA, and Support.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend data-layer services for Camunda 8.
• Own end-to-end delivery of initiatives with Product and cross-team coordination.
• Evolve data storage, processing, and exposure of process data.
• Improve secondary storage performance and build operability tooling.
• Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations with Support and SRE.
